I have to admit, I am a self proclaimed TV binger. Sometimes I can go weeks without watching a single minute, and other times you'll find me parked on the couch for hours watching episode after episode of my latest on demand obsession. Lately (much to my husband's dismay) my newest obsession has been CNBC's "Shark Tank", and lucky for me I can watch them all on demand whenever I want!
It might not come as a surprise that my favorite business pitches are for food items, and I became so intrigued with one particular pitch that I mayyyy have gotten a teensy impulsive and purchased some merchandise online before the next commercial even appeared. Three days later I had two jars of this sitting on my doorstep
Yep, that pitch that hooked me was that of Keely & Erika, college roommates who were making peanut butter from their dorm. Of all their flavors, I decided on the honey peanut butter with crunchy pretzel bits. So. Good.

When I was done "taste testing" my new ingredient by the spoonful, I got to thinking about recipes I could incorporate it into. I've had an abundance of apples thanks to my dad's most recent trip to the orchard, so I got to work on one of my fall favorites--apple crisp.
I whipped out my oldest and favorite cookbook for some guidance
My cooking style is creative and resourceful- I often use recipes as a guide rather than following them step by step. In this case, I used half the amount of butter called for and replaced the remaining 1/4 cup (give or take a bit) with, you guessed it, my new pretzel peanut butter. I would imagine you could use any kind of peanut butter, but I love the flavor and nutritional benefits a natural peanut butter brings to the table. I left it in the oven for an additional 5 minutes to get that extra "crisp" I was looking for.
The final product was nothing short of delicious, especially with a little bit of vanilla ice cream on the side. Flavors of a traditional apple crisp mixed with a sweet and salty variation-yum. My work friends all approved at our night shift Halloween potluck and my hubby is asking for another batch soon.
I hope this inspires you to try out some new twists on your favorite fall recipes, I'd love to hear what you've done in your own kitchen!
Happy cooking, happy eating!
