Before I was a nurse I spent my summers working at a local ice cream parlor, The Jigger Shop (www.jiggershop.com)
Needless to say, 6 summers there really intensified my ice cream addiction. Even now I get random cravings for a hot fudge sundae! During one of these cravings I searched Pinterest for a homemade hot fudge recipe and haven't gone back to the storebought kind since. Try it for yourself!
Ingredients
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup dark or bittersweet chocolate (I used Hershey's special dark minis I had sitting around from Christmas)
Directions
Bring cream, sugars, water, salt and half the chocolate to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently and boil for 5 minutes.
Turn off the heat, add butter, vanilla, and remaining chocolate. Stir until smooth and allow to cool.
Place cooled hot fudge sauce in an airtight container, like a mason jar. It can be stored in the fridge for about 3 weeks or frozen if saving for future use.
The result is a thick, chocolatey topping for you're favorite ice cream that takes me back to those hot July days behind the counter at the Jigger Shop.
I recommend microwaving the sauce before pouring a couple (or more than a couple😉) tablespoons on your next dessert. You're welcome in advance for the chocolatey satisfaction you get every time you take a bite 😋
Happy cooking, happy eating my chocolate loving friends!
