It's the most wonderful time of the year! December is full of family traditions for everyone, and last year we started a new one for the Blackburns. It's called Blackburn Baking Day, and all the women get together for a full day (I'm talking 13+ hours) of holiday baking. This year we ended up with 20 different treats, and i walked away with so many new recipes! In the spirit of giving I've decided to share some of these recipes with all of you.
First up is one of my recipes, a tried and true recipe I got from my mom a while back. Saltine toffee!
Ingredients:
1 sleeve Saltine crackers
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
Toppings of your choice
Directions:
Line a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper, arrange your saltine crackers in a single layer. In a saucepan, melt your butter and stir in the brown sugar. Bring to a boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. After 3 minutes pour your butter/sugar mixture over the crackers. Place in a 350 degree oven for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and Immediately top with toppings of your choice! Place in the fridge, or in my case outside in the cold. After a day or so break the crackers apart into bite sized pieces.
Here are the three varieties I made on baking day, feel free to get creative and make your own!
Nut lovers with peanuts and slivered almonds
Getting festive with red and green mini m&ms
Traditional chocolate chip
This is such a quick, easy recipe that is such a crowd pleaser during the holidays. It's a great addition to your Christmas cookie platter!
Happy baking, friends!
